Great addition to my kitchen
First, let me say I did not buy this pot. After many years of use, my Calphalon Commercial dutch oven warped and the company suggested this dutch oven as a replacement, as the older model is no longer made.
I could not be happier. This pot is wonderful. For me, the 5 quart is the right size for everyday use. And this pot is gorgeous. The enamel finish is well done, no blemishes, and the color deepens from top to bottom. I will be serving my chili right from this pot on Game Day. I would not do that with my last dutch oven.
The cast iron interior is nice and smooth. Poorly done cast iron is very rough and uneven. Following the manufacturer's suggestion, I preheated to pot on medium heat (the heat I would cook with) THEN added a little canola oil, and sauteed some chicken. No sticking at all. Clean up was a breeze.
The pot held the heat evenly. No hot spots that I detected. Also, the lid fits snugly and has those "downward points" that are to...
If it weren't defective, it would have been great.
We have another, giant Calphalon Dutch Oven that we've had for years that is still in perfect condition. So my wife wanted another one, but smaller, so I got her this one for Christmas. She was happy and used it once, when cleaning it up she noticed that the black coating on the inside was peeling off, exposing bare iron. We then sent it back to Amazon for a refund. We may try one more since it's such a great price and we've had nothing but great meals made with our other one for over 3 years.
Love my Dutch oven, but the Amazon price not so much
I love my dutch oven! I bought it last night and used it to bake bread in the oven with it, it maintained the heat and humidity inside just right. So I came to Amazon to check out the price for a larger one and was floored. So I want you all know that I bought mine from Homegoods at half the price!
