Egg Magic
These little cups are truly amazing. I coat the inside with a very small spray of non-stick cooking spray and then just crack the egg into the cup. Place them in about 3/4 inch of simmering water, put on the lid, and you will have perfect poached eggs. They slide right out of the cup and look beautiful every time!! I am going to buy more...six aren't enough. They also store beautifully in the fridge and keep the poached egg perfect until you need them.
Silicone for cooking vessels?
I bought these because I was looking for a simpler, more efficient way to poach eggs, AND keep more of the eggs. When you poach eggs directly in water, the thinner portions of the white float away. You lose a good portion of your eggs.
I have some that are advertised as "poachers", but they cook the eggs out of or above the water, steaming them, not poaching, and they have a different texture. Not "bad" texture, but noticeably different from poached.
So I tried these. They seemed cute, but I was concerned about their silicone material. Silicone has INSULATING qualities, preventing heat transfer. Note the silicone oven mitts...
I tested these sitting in boiling water up about 3/4 of the sides. Then I tried them in deeper water, completely immersing (covering) them (putting them VERY GENTLY into the water off heat so there isn't a lot of boiling going on, then putting the pot back on the heat).
Normally, poaching eggs on my stove takes 4 to 5...
Six little cutes.
These individual, colorful, silicone egg poachers are cute and functional. They work quite well, especially in a steamer. A water bath works too. A perfect solution to perfectly shaped poached eggs.
